BM25 Semantic Search
BM25 Semantic Search is a powerful, privacy-first application that allows users to create a personal, offline search engine for their text documents directly in the browser. The process begins by creating a document collection; the user drags and drops multiple .txt files into the application's file area. The tool instantly processes and tokenizes the content of these files, building a sophisticated search index based on the Okapi BM25 relevance algorithm, a standard used in professional search engines. Once the documents are indexed, the user can type a search query into the input bar and press Enter to perform a search across the entire collection. The application displays a ranked list of the most relevant documents, with each result showing the original filename, its calculated BM25 relevance score, and a content snippet. To improve readability, the search terms are automatically highlighted within the snippet. For persistence, the application allows the user to save the entire indexed collection to the browser's local storage with a 'Save Index' button, enabling them to 'Load Index' and resume their session later without needing to re-upload the files. A 'Reset' button is also included to clear the collection and start over.
